Eat For Energy and Stay Stress Free
Each one of us goes through stressful situations every now and then. It is a normal part of life. Stress can be brought about by a number of reasons. Losing a job, financial woes, losing a loved one are a few of the major reasons that cause stress.
Another way to look at stress is that it is an important part of life. Stress brings out our inner strengths and makes us stronger. There are a number of things we need to be careful about when dealing with stress. Let us take a look at the things we can do to manage stress.
There is precious little we can do to change the stressors that cause stress. Instead of thinking along those lines we should try to deal with and manage stress. One of the best things to do when faced with stress is to get plenty of exercise. Exercise helps us to feel better about ourselves. It improves blood circulation and helps us to sleep better. When we exercise, the body releases hormones called endorphins into the blood stream. These hormones promote a sense of overall well being.
Stress often induces bouts of overeating and binging on junk food. Let’s face some facts. Food such as pizzas, hamburgers, tacos, milkshakes and doughnuts and other forms of junk food provide a temporary good feeling. Many people who undergo stress are susceptible to gorging on junk food. Needless to say, junk food does more harm than good.
Go through any eating for energy book and the simple rule is that junk food provides very little nutrition. Most junk foods are high on the glycemic index and are packed with empty calories. Eat foods that are absorbed by the body, slowly and gradually and do not give you a sugary high. Make sure that you get enough of fiber, whole grains, lean meats, fruit and vegetables. These foods are low on the glycemic index and are good for you.
It is not easy to fight stress. However, following a few simple rules of thumb can help you in your struggle against stress. Plenty of exercise, fresh air and sunshine go a long way in making you feel better and ensuring that you come out of the stressful situation.
